September 2, Fineko/abc.az. The Trump administration has filed an amicus brief supporting OpenAI in its ongoing copyright dispute with The New York Times and other news publishers over the use of copyrighted articles to train ChatGPT’s large language models.

In its filing, the U.S. government argued that using copyrighted materials for AI training purposes generally constitutes "fair use" under existing law. The intervention underscores Washington’s intent to foster national AI innovation and reduce legal risks for technology developers training next-generation artificial intelligence systems.
