Bank of Canada Holds Interest Rates Steady Amid Trade War Uncertainty

22:06 - 2.09.2026

September 2, Fineko/abc.az. The Bank of Canada (BOC) held its benchmark overnight rate unchanged at 2.25% for the seventh consecutive meeting, as trade tensions with the US threaten economic growth and pose upside inflation risks.

Led by Governor Tiff Macklem, policymakers noted that while the economy and inflation are evolving broadly in line with expectations, new tariff risks have heightened uncertainty surrounding the growth outlook. The central bank opted to maintain steady borrowing costs while assessing the ongoing impact of US trade policies.
