New Water Use Rules and Fees Will Not Apply to Households and Family Farms

14:11 - 1.09.2026

September 1, Fineko/abc.az. The new requirements and fees regarding special water use that entered into force on September 1 do not apply to citizens' daily household needs, personal farming, or individual agricultural activities.

The State Service for Control over Water Use and Protection under the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan stated that citizens can continue to use public water bodies freely and free of charge for personal needs.

Furthermore, landowners without access to centralized water supply are permitted to drill and operate shallow wells on their land without it being classified as special water use. Under the Law "On Family Peasant Farms," agricultural activities carried out on private or allocated land in rural areas do not constitute commercial entrepreneurship, meaning no special permits or fees are required. The primary objective of the new regulation is not to restrict public water consumption, but to reinforce water resources accounting and promote efficient water management.
