Russia Extends Restrictions on Cash Foreign Currency Withdrawals for Another 6 Months

10:30 - 2.09.2026

September 2, Fineko/abc.az. The Central Bank of Russia has extended restrictions on cash foreign currency withdrawals until March 9, 2027, citing ongoing Western sanctions that prohibit Russian banks from acquiring physical US dollars and euros.

According to the regulator's statement, the decision stems from the continued enforcement of sanctions banning the supply of cash foreign currencies to Russian financial institutions.

Originally introduced in March 2022, the measures restrict individuals from withdrawing physical foreign currency from their bank accounts, permitting cash withdrawals almost exclusively in Russian rubles.
