September 3, Fineko/abc.az. New rules governing the temporary storage of goods moved by individuals across Azerbaijan’s customs border took effect on September 3. The changes were introduced to the Customs Code.

Under the new rules, goods are placed in storage based on a simplified declaration and a corresponding report. The maximum storage period is four months, while goods imported by individuals may be stored for no more than one month, as determined by the customs authority.

Food products imported in excess of established limits cannot be placed in storage. They must either be returned abroad or destroyed. The maximum storage period for goods prohibited from being imported is three days.

During the storage period, the owner may collect the goods by paying the required customs duties or providing the relevant license, return them abroad, or surrender them to the state.

Foreign goods will also be placed in storage based on a temporary storage declaration. If the declared goods are not presented within one month or after a decision to conduct an inspection has been made, amendments to the declaration will not be permitted.

According to Shahin Bagirov, Chairman of the State Customs Committee, the changes are aimed at increasing the country’s transit potential, digitalizing customs operations, and creating more transparent and flexible conditions for businesses.
