September 3, Fineko/abc.az. European underground gas storage (UGS) facilities reached a fill level of 65.09% as of August 30, marking the lowest stockpiles for late August in at least 13 years. The current level sits 16.84 percentage points below the five-year average for this period and well behind last year's 77.4%.
European storage currently holds roughly 71.1 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas—13.9 bcm less than the same period last year. Since early April, only 40 bcm of gas has been injected into storage, covering just 59% of the volume required to prepare for the upcoming heating season.
If the current injection pace continues, storage levels could peak at just 70–75% by winter, representing an all-time historic low.
