September 1, Fineko/abc.az. Japanese automakers Honda and Nissan have signed a strategic partnership agreement to jointly develop a standardized core software and vehicle operating system planned for deployment starting in April 2029.

According to a joint announcement, the collaboration will focus on standardizing electronic control units (ECUs) and in-vehicle operating systems across their next-generation software-defined vehicles.

The initiative aims to lower production costs through increased economies of scale while expanding access to a shared R&D data pool.

Notably, both carmakers had previously explored a full merger in 2025, but those negotiations collapsed after Nissan rejected Honda's condition to become its subsidiary.
