Meta Backtracks on AI Layoff Plan Following Staff Revolt

21:52 - 31.08.2026

August 31, Fineko/abc.az. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has halted plans to replace thousands of employees with artificial intelligence agents following a widespread internal revolt by the company's workforce.

In January 2026, Meta developed an ambitious internal strategy to automate a significant portion of employee tasks using AI agents, aiming to reduce its total headcounts by up to 25%.

However, the initiative met strong pushback from staff, who highlighted major flaws in the AI systems, ranging from frequent technical glitches to severe data leak vulnerabilities. Faced with growing internal opposition and technical concerns, Meta's management agreed to abandon further large-scale layoffs intended for AI replacement.
