July 17, Fineko/abc.az. Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially flagged off India’s first hydrogen-fueled train on July 17, according to a report by the Times of India. The domestically developed train will operate on an 89-kilometer route in the northern state of Haryana. Boasting a capacity of up to 2,600 passengers, the train delivers 3,200 horsepower and features advanced safety systems designed to detect hydrogen leaks, overheating, and smoke. It operates at a maximum speed of 75 km/h, though it is engineered to reach up to 110 km/h. Hydrogen-powered trains remain a global rarity, with Germany currently leading in commercial deployment while other nations continue trial operations. Most global hydrogen models are currently deployed on shorter regional routes, typically consisting of two to four carriages.
