July 17, Fineko/abc.az. Chinese AI startup Moonshot AI has unveiled its new Kimi K3 model, declaring it the largest open-source AI model available with performance matching frontier commercial solutions.

The model boasts 2.8 trillion parameters, supports a context window of up to 1 million tokens, and features multimodal capabilities. According to the company, Kimi K3 delivers results close to Anthropic's Fable 5 and outperforms OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.5 across a series of benchmarks. The independent Arena AI platform also ranked the model first globally for front-end programming tasks.

This launch underscores tightening global competition as Chinese firms rapidly close the gap with US counterparts, and in specific fields, edge ahead. Moonshot AI is backed by major tech giants Alibaba and Tencent, with previous reports indicating plans to raise $2 billion at a valuation of around $30 billion ahead of a potential Hong Kong IPO.
