July 15, Fineko/abc.az. Nearly 30% of employees in systemically important banks of Azerbaijan are employed in the digital sector.
Vusal Khalilov, deputy governor of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, said this at a roundtable in Baku on the topic "Digital Architecture: Program Management & a Results-Oriented Approach".
According to Khalilov, large-scale development of digitalization in the country has been observed since 2018: "If at that time the share of e-banking in transfers was 26%, today it has already reached 82%. This is a very significant increase. At the same time, the share of cashless transactions in card payments has increased from 17.8% up to 69.7%. If we look at recent results, turnover of the instant payment system has increased from 87 million manats in the 1st quarter of 2025 up to 940 million manats today. Those figures reflect not only introduction of technologies, but also fundamental changes in the financial behavior of citizens and businesses. Digital channels have ceased to be an alternative and have become the main channel for providing services in the financial sector. Today, the key competition in the industry is focused on services rendered through digital channels."
"One of the most important achievements is development of human capital in the digital sphere. Our latest research shows that up to 30% of employees of systemically important banks work in the digital direction. Speech is about programmers, AI engineers, Product Owners, and DevOps specialists. We believe this trend makes significant contribution to the emerging digital ecosystem in the country," the CBA rep added.
